S04E01 Happy Holiday
Mike and Alison welcome the very first guests to their new bijoux B&B, determined to get a glowing review, whatever the cost. While serving the couple breakfast, Alison realises that they are not enjoying their anniversary break and, fearing a bad review, utilises the surprising skills of Lady Button and Julian to ensure the couple make the most of their weekend away. Mary reveals she has never had a holiday, so Pat tells her about the joys and pitfalls of week on the Costa Del Sol. Thomas is perplexed yet secretly thrilled by sudden attention from the Plaguers, who, after admiring Alison’s discarded portrait of him in the basement, are now affording him celebrity status in Button House, hanging on his every word. The Captain is outraged by this meaningless reverence, believing that only a handful of great war leaders deserve such unadulterated veneration. As he and Thomas clash over the Plaguers, he challenges them to endure a poetry recital in order to test their loyalty.
S04E02 Speak as ye choose
Mary walks Julian through her journey of self-discovery and how she finally found her voice. Thomas realises enough is enough - he must go ‘cold turkey’ on his Alison addiction, and needs Pat’s undivided attention. Old friends of Mike check in to the guesthouse and agree to share the surprising secret of their success. The Captain is thrown by a change to his daily routine, so Kitty steps in to teach him how to live in the moment. Robin helps Lady Button to remember lost friends.
S04E03 The Hardest Word
The ghosts (and Mike) are shocked by Alison’s colossal telling off – the biggest they have ever had (and that’s saying something). They all agree they must come up with a creative way to get back into Alison’s good books and show her how truly sorry they are. Mary, however, believing she has done nothing wrong, refuses to take any responsibility - not after the fiery fate that befell her the last time she took the blame for something she didn’t do.
Alison and Mike have a last-minute cancellation at the guesthouse and decide that a relaxing day off is exactly what they need. Mike sets about creating the perfect day - cooking Alison lunch, running her a hot bath, a trip to the cinema. But the pair soon discover that unwinding is far more challenging than it looks.
S04E04 Gone Gone
Button House is dealt a major blow when a shocking revelation throws the Ghosts into disarray. Kitty looks to Pat for moral support, and while he is more than happy to oblige, he finds himself in deep water when he tries to offer her words of comfort. Another bombshell drops when Mike realises there have been some crossed wires over an event booking and he is faced with hosting an impromptu children’s birthday bash. Not wanting to let the two little birthday girls down, he and Alison attempt to scramble together a last-minute party to remember – looking to Pat to provide (somewhat dated) menu ideas. Robin meanwhile is perhaps overly keen to join in on the fun and games. The party is interrupted mid-flow by the Ghosts’ chaos, prompting Alison and Thomas to come up with an idea to get everyone together to talk about the elephant in the room. And Robin offers the Ghosts some unexpected wisdom.
S04E05 Poached Guests
Alison and Mike discover their neighbour, Barclay has been scheming behind their backs – his outlandish tactics threatening the success of their guesthouse business. For Alison, this warrants all out war and she sets about playing Barclay at his own game. If she is going to stoop to such trickery however, she’ll need the help of one of the Ghosts, known for their crafty and coercive skills: Julian. Mike attempts to mix things up for future guests at the gatehouse by secretly investing in some not-so-cheap entertainment that Alison will definitely not approve of. The Captain makes a discovery, leading the other Ghosts to make a new friend nearby. They all relish the time they spend with their new friend – uplifted by the addition to the group. Things soon become competitive between the Ghosts however as they force their new acquaintance to choose a favourite – but not one of them predicts what comes next..
S04E06 Not Again
Alison and Mike receive some exciting news about their guesthouse business, but the fallout soon sees tensions running high between the pair as they struggle to deal with particularly demanding guests. Pat and Thomas learn about the intricacies and challenges of veganism. Kitty attempts to adopt a new way of communicating that sparks utter confusion between her and Alison. Lady Button is delighted by a new arrival at Button House that allows her to tap into a past passion. Robin however is less charmed by the new addition, which leaves him reeling from frightening flashbacks. Julian is confronted by a hard truth but is determined to prove everyone wrong. Alison and Mike reach boiling point as Robin comes face to face with his biggest fear in the grounds of Button House. Mike finds himself in danger and Robin is forced to make a critical decision.
