Soren, een jonge uil, wordt gekidnapt door de uilen van St. Aggie's, een weeshuis waar jonge uilen gehersenspoeld worden tot meedogenloze soldaten.
Soren en een paar andere uilen weten uit het weeshuis te ontsnappen en vluchten naar het eiland 'Ga'Hoole',
om een wijze groep uilen bij te staan in hun strijd tegen de soldaten van St. Aggie's.
